Burgundy is where it all started for us; we are based in Beaune, the heart of the Burgundy Cote d’Or wine region. We’d be thrilled to show off our home on one of our beautiful Burgundy Self-Guided walking tours! We offer several different “set” tours to give you some ideas, but as with all our France Walking Tours, we are happy to customize if you want something a little different, or a mix of them all.
All of our Burgundy Walking Tours packages will give you an opportunity to explore the famous wine villages of Burgundy: Meursault, Volnay and Pommard in the Cote de Beaune, the famous Corton hillside with the Corton and Corton-Charlemagne Grands Crus, and the Route des Grands Crus villages in the Cote de Nuits such as Gevrey Chambertin, Morey Saint Denis, Vougeot (with the Chateau Clos de Vougeot), the renowned Romanee Conti vineyard, and the town of Nuits Saint Georges.

Travel is easy to your walking tour in Burgundy, as there are high-speed trains from Paris, with one easy connection through the city of Dijon, only taking two or three hours. If you have an extra day or two for your France vacation, you could consider adding a night there for explorations. Dijon, with its mustard and Burgundian “spice cake” (pain d’epices) was the capital of Burgundy when it was independent from France in the middle ages. The Dukes of Burgundy built a palace here – which today is a wonderful art museum with great temporary and permanent exhibitions. If you decide to stay there, you can visit the Cité Gastronomique – presenting the area’s rich food and wine heritage. We’ll provide a small self-guided walking tour as well to help in your explorations there.

On that note, all our Burgundy Walking trips stay for a couple of nights in Beaune; you’ll enjoy having the extra time here, wandering the cobblestoned streets, doing some wine tasting, visiting the Fallot Mustard factory (their mustard tasting bar is great!), or admiring the beautiful 15th century tapestries in the Collegial Church. There was a palace for the Dukes here in Beaune as well, which today is a great little wine museum. Or take the time to visit the new Cité des Vins wine centre – this beautiful modern building showcases Burgundy Wines in a great, interactive manner, and you can finish with a glass of wine and panoramic view from their wine bar terrace.

You can’t leave your self-guided walking holiday in Burgundy without visiting the stunning Hospices de Beaune, also called Hotel Dieu. This 15th century hospital was founded by the Chancellor to the Dukes of Burgundy; he (with the help of his wife, Guigone de Salins) launched this charity hospital near the end of his life, as a good deed aimed at helping his chances at attaining a place in heaven after his death.

Our Nice ‘n Easy Burgundy Walking tour gives you at least an hour less of walking each day, allowing you more time for relaxing and exploring. If you don’t have a lot of time, but would love to see what Burgundy has to offer, our Taste of Burgundy Walk tour could be the perfect fit for you – just four nights allows you to see the best of the Burgundy vineyards, and wonderful towns like Beaune, Pommard, Meursault, and Gevrey Chambertin or Morey Saint Denis. But if you have the time, we recommend the Best of Burgundy Walking tour; you’ll love getting to see all that Burgundy has to offer. And ask us about other options; perhaps you would like to add a cooking class with a delicious regional lunch and paired wines? Or a day with a guide in the vineyards to learn about the region’s famous wines in-depth? We’re here to help make your Walking Tour in Burgundy the perfect holiday!

Whichever version of our tours you chose, or that we help you create, you’ll love the freedom and independence of our France walking tour packages, that you can take completely at your own pace, with just the right amount of support – we’re always here if you have questions along the way, ready to help out.

A walking holiday in France is truly rewarding – the country is crisscrossed with fantastic hiking routes, a mix of single-track forest path, gravel or tiny paved roads through the vineyards, and fields, occasionally of beautiful sunflowers or golden wheat.

On your France Walking Tour you are never far from a small village or town, with beautiful stone and wood ancient buildings, panoramas, or, in the towns, cafés ang bakeries with the smells of buttery croissants and pastries wafting out to you. Walking in France takes you by castles and chateau, rivers and medieval towns, rich history and beautiful countryside.
