Upon your arrival, check in to your hotel in the heart of the historic and lovely town. You can wander the cobblestoned streets and squares, visit the Collegial church, and see the Ducal Palace, all with the aid of our self-guided walking tour. Or simply relax on the shaded terrace of a café, before your dinner tonight in one of our favourite gourmet restaurants.
(Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays)
You meet your fellow travellers and guide in front of the tourist office in the centre of town after a delicious breakfast. You drive a short ways northwards, into the heart of the Pinot Noir Grand Crus. Your guide stops often, teaching you about the unique Burgundian appellations, showing you what is happening in the vineyards, and explaining how to understand a wine label. You'll visit the 15th century Clos de Vougeot, as well as stop to give proper homage to the most renowned (and expensive!) vineyard of them all, the Romanee Conti. Lunch awaits you in a small local restaurant. After lunch, as you meander along the Route des Grands Crus southwards towards Beaune, you will stop in a small winery for a visit and tasting. Back in Beaune at the end of the afternoon, in time to relax, and perhaps enjoy a Kir, the local aperitif, before choosing where to have dinner, helped by our suggestions.
(Wednesdays and Fridays)
Today you head southwards, through the many small villages of the Cote de Beaune. You will stop to learn the history and character of great red wine villages like Pommard and Volnay, but you are heading into the heart of the Chardonnay Kingdom, to the villages of Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet, where they produce some of the best white wines in the world. After seeing the famous Montrachet vineyard, head up into the Hautes Cotes to have a tour of the beautiful Chateau de la Rochepot, perched on a cliff side, above the village of the same name. You have a great wine tasting lunch awaiting you – the gourmet food is accompanied by several wines - mostly whites - you will taste and compare, helped by your guide and the winery's sommelier. En route back to Beaune, a final tasting awaits in a typical winery along the way.
(any day except Sundays)
Today you stay in Beaune. If you haven’t yet had time, you’ll want to use our Self-Guided walking tour to explore the rich history of this town. Mid-morning, meet at the entrance of the Bouchard Pere et Fils winery, where you will be taken on a tour of the amazing cellars, built right under the medieval walls of town. Afterwards, a tasting of their renowned wines awaits. After explorations for lunch, you’ll have some time to enjoy Beaune itself; perhaps do a little souvenir shopping in the boutiques, or simply relax before meeting for your private tour at the end of the afternoon of the incredible Hospices de Beaune. This 15th century charity hospital, built by the Chancellor to the Dukes of Burgundy, is steeped in fascinating stories, and is THE site to see in Beaune. We have reserved dinner for you at one of our favourite restaurant for your final evening.
Your Burgundy Passion Guided Wine Tour has come to an end; after a final breakfast, connections are easy from Beaune train station for your further travels. Bon Voyage!
