Upon your arrival at the Dijon train station, we will meet you and transfer you to the first hotel in a tiny village in the heart of gorgeous and tranquil vineyard countryside. After you have freshened up, we'll provide you with your trip package and fit you on your bikes. If you feel like it, you can head out on a short ride to get used to the bikes to Gevrey Chambertin, where you can wander the village centre, walk up to see the impressive 12th century castle and pretty Romanesque church, and stop for a visit and tasting through a slightly Game of Thrones-style cellar!
Your first ride takes you into the plains east of the vineyards of Gevray, on easygoing terrain, and great, tiny roads. The route brings you to Olivier's snail farm, where you'll have a tour of the park with its thousands of big grey snails, the Helix Aspersa Maxima, so coveted by the region's restaurants. Your visit will finish, of course, with a tasting: the classic Burgundian snail, in the shell with a garlicy butter sauce, but also bite-sized, deep-fried in batter, or with tomato and the small Spanish Espelette peppers. Continue onwards through tiny villages, where you can top up your snail starter with lunch at a simple, family-run restauant along the way.
Today's ride heads southwards, following the Route des Grands Crus towards Beaune. It is a real village-hopper, as none of the picturesque vineyard villages is very far apart from the next. You can stop to visit the Chateau de Clos de Vougeot with its monumental medieval wine presses (it took 8 monks to turn the wheels!), and take some time to meander and find lunch in the centre of pretty Nuits St Georges (we provide a map and small walking tour). The day's destination is Beaune, were you'll settle in for the final nights of your tour. At the end of the afternoon, meet with your guide, for a private tour of the incredible Hospices de Beaune, a 15th century hospital with a rich history that is THE site to see in the region.
No biking today, get ready for climbing the treetops! After time to buy a picnic, we transfer you this morning southwards, to the deep forest just outside a small town of Givry, where you'll spend the day at a wonderful and fun tree-ropes course. Test your balance and skills - as well as your nerves - on a variety of high-strung (from 1 metre to 20 metres!) exciting obstacle courses and zip lines, surrounded by the green leaves and filtering sunlight – for all levels of energy and abilities. All of course, attached to their infallible safety lines. At the end of your day, we bring you back to your hotel.
Today, with your shortest route, gives you some time to relax - perhaps sleep in before starting out. The ride takes you through five unique villages. Four of them have castles – be sure to visit the one in Savigny-les-Beaune, with its unique collection of airplanes, motorcycles, and Abarth racing cars! If you like, lock your bikes and walk up to the panoramic view above Pernand for a picnic. The ride is not very long, bringing you into Beaune in time for some more explorations. You can take time to wander the medieval streets of Beaune, its fortified walls, the 15th century tapestries in the Collegial Church (showing the life of the Virgin Mary), the Ducal Palace, and have a drink or an ice cream in one of the many cafes on the main square. We provide a self-guided walking tour to help in your explorations. At the end of the afternoon, meet for a “tasting workshop” with a variety of the local cheeses, the famous mustards, and of course some chocolate!
After a final breakfast, there are easy connections out of Beaune train station for your further travels - Bon Voyage!
